Ash Stevens Honored for Environmental Safety Efforts

Receives National Performance Improvement Honor from SOCMA

Detroit, Michigan – December 8, 2010 – Ash Stevens, Inc. (ASI), a global leader in small molecule drug development and manufacturing, announced that it has received two Silver Awards for the successful continuation of its environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) program sponsored by ChemStewards®, an initiative of The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA). The award, presented annually by SOCMA, recognized ASI's Riverview, Michigan facility for implementing a program that successfully reduces the environmental footprint of companies that handle and manufacture chemicals as well as ensures compliance with all current environmental health and safety regulations and the highest standard of EHS&S operation.

"This is the second consecutive year our plant in Riverview has been honored by SOCMA," said Ash Stevens President and CEO Dr. Stephen A. Munk, who accepted the award at the annual SOCMA dinner in New York City on December 6. "It is tremendously gratifying to have our commitment to the highest possible standards of environmental safety be honored by an organization whose primary purpose is to encourage such programs."

SOCMA is the only U.S.-based trade association dedicated solely to the batch chemical industry.

"Ash Stevens' hard work on their comprehensive environmental, health, safety and security program shows their commitment to constant improvement and to contributing to the quality of life in their community. SOCMA commends them on their Silver Award honors and encourages Ash Stevens to continue these efforts through the ChemStewards performance improvement program," said SOCMA President Lawrence D. Sloan.
